Understanding noises and error codes on your Samsung dryer

5:04

Having a dryer in your home to dry freshly washed clothes or warm up blankets on a cold night is great! Hearing that dryer make concerning noises or flash an error code is not so great. However, you’ll be happy to know most of those noises are nothing to lose sleep over, and some of those error codes and can easily be resolved without having to call for help. Dryers make a few different noises, and that’s normal. You’ll usually hear a light humming during a cycle. If you hear rattling, it usually means something is loose. Check that your dryer is properly leveled and look for loose change or keys in the drum. A rattling sound could also be caused by a loose connection to the vent duct so just be sure it’s tightened all the way. If you hear a squeaking sound during a cycle, this usually indicates that a belt is slipping due to an oversized load. Try reducing the load size and if this doesn’t resolve the issue, it’s time for service. When it comes to error codes, there are a few that you can handle on your own. You may see a dC, dE, do, or d0 if the door latch isn’t closing. Make sure that there isn’t anything caught in the door, like a scarf or shirt sleeve. If your dryer is SmartThings enabled, you can use Smart Care to look up the error code. If you’re dryer doesn’t seem to be drying your clothes completely or it’s taking too long, check to see if Eco Mode is active. If it is, it will increase the time it takes to dry your clothes. You also need to make sure you’re cleaning the lint filter. This means removing lint after every cycle, as well as giving it a gentle scrub with a brush and clean water to remove waxy buildup caused by dryer sheets. Lastly, don’t forget to clean your moisture sensors!
