Different Sound System Setups

2.1, 5.1, 7.1 - what do these terms mean when talking about home audio systems? Well, these refer to audio channels. The first number will always indicate the number of speakers which carry the majority of the audio material, and the second will indicate the number of subwoofers, which enhance the bass and depth of the sound. So 2.1 systems have two stereo speakers and a single subwoofer. 5.1 channels include right, center, and left front speakers, right and left rear speakers, and a subwoofer. 7.1 systems are similar to 5.1 systems but include two additional rear speakers. Whatever system you choose, surround sound will greatly enhance a home theater experience.
