Understanding water and dust resistance for Samsung mobile products
3:21
If you’re enjoying a drink poolside you can have peace of mind knowing your Samsung devices will be able to resist splashes that may come its way! Keep in mind that Samsung products are not waterproof, but they are water resistant. Samsung uses several different rating codes but the most common of these ratings is an IP rating, or Ingress Protection rating. Samsung devices are backed by this international standard which categorizes resistance to both water and dust. The most common IP ratings for Samsung mobile products are IP67 and IP68. With an IP67 rating, your device may be submerged in fresh water for up to 30 minutes at a depth of 3 feet. For devices with an IP68 rating, the depth increases to 5 feet. Water resistance can be affected by factors like a cracked phone screen, salt water, or pressurized liquids. If your device comes in contact with anything other than fresh water, it’s important to rinse it right away with fresh water, and dry it off completely with a soft cloth. Don’t forget to dry the earpiece, primary microphone, speaker, and USB port. You’ll also need to remove any cases and covers, and rinse them with fresh water as well.
